Praise the Lord! Danny's surgery went well and we were able to bring him home yesterday. He seems to have little discomfort and all vital signs are perfect. However, we are closely watching his output to make sure the kidneys are working properly after the surgery.
Danny rested pretty well last night. I got up with Corbin at 4:30am and then helped Danny's mom turn Danny. We have to turn him at night every three to four hours so he doesn't get any bed sores. Usually one person can handle it pretty well, but with Danny just having surgery, we wanted to be all the more careful with him.
While Loida (Danny's mom) and I were getting him dressed this morning, he was speaking very clearly. He said 'up' as I was lowering the head of the bed. I asked him if he wanted his head or his feet up and he answered 'my head.' He was able to tell us that his belly hurt. This is a marked improvement because he usually would only speak if we asked him a question. It seems like he is initiating more often.
My special Danny moment happened already today. Loida was sitting next to Danny's bed holding Corbin and talking to him. Corbin was all smiles and Danny just stared at Corbin. But, what was so beautiful was that Danny had a smile on his face the entire time. My Danny was peaking through! It was a moment that I would have expected to see if this whole accident hadn't happened. It was awesome, but then Danny caught my eye and smiled again. Oh, be still my melting heart!
Next week, we have follow up appointments with the surgeon Dr. Skandalakis and Dr. Dunlevie, Danny's primary care physician. I'll keep you posted on their reports.
Thank you for your prayers prior to and during Danny's surgery. We are very thankful to the Lord for a smooth procedure.
Have a great weekend and I'll update soon with more exciting news!
