January 5, 2006

Thank you all who have already sent emails from the site! I've printed them and plan on reading them to Danny to encourage him especially right now.

We had a fabulous day yesterday and I am so excited to see what the Lord has planned for us today! Danny had occupational therapy yesterday with Wanda (Sidebar: Wanda sings in the choir at our church and her daughters are in the youth group that we helped lead. Isn't God good?). Wanda was pleased with Danny's progress. Specifically, he followed her instructions on hand and arm movements with his right arm. Trust me, that arm is strong! We even arm wrestled last night and he put up a good fight.

Corbin was blessed with the ability to pass gas and belch like his parents; I won't tell you from which one of us he got what, but he burped yesterday and Danny laughed out loud. He laughed like we haven't seen since the accident; he laughed with his whole person.

Danny has gotten so verbal that I can't even remember everything he said to me yesterday. He's even speaking in both English and Spanish. Danny's mother and cousin were putting him back in bed yesterday and while he was up in the air, he said, "Mami put me down." However, he said it in Spanish! Everything about that moment speaks of huge progress in his mind-he knew he was in the air, didn't like it, knew what to say and to whom and he knew how to say it in Spanish. It was such a surprise that his mom and cousin looked at each other like "did you hear that?"

I gave Danny a shower last night and he was able to tell me if the water was too hot or too cold. He didn't like the water streaming on his chest and he told me to "get it off." I also asked Danny last night what kind of Harley he owns. "1997 XL 1200C" was his reply. If you know anything about Harleys, a XL 1200C is better known as a Sportster 1200 Custom, but that isn't what Danny said. He said the term that a motorcycle enthusiast would use. He also told me what color his bike is and what kind of motorcycle I had.

All these responses just confirm for me that my Danny is "in there." He remembers and he is working to get out of this fog. I wish I didn't have to work so I could experience these days firsthand, but I'm thankful that I have a job, insurance and that it's only three days a week. It is a blessing!

I also wanted to share with you all something that Danny asked me this morning before I left for work. We prayed together and I asked the Lord to bless those that lift us up in prayer. When I was finished praying, Danny asked me "Who prays for us?" I started naming people that I knew he would know and he began to cry. Please know that your prayers are heard, answered and if nothing else, minister to us. I can not thank all of you enough for all that you've done. From food, cards, money and gifts to prayer and words of encouragement, you all have placed your hands underneath those of the Father who is carrying us through this journey. My simple thanks will not suffice, but the reward you'll receive from the Father in your obedience will be indescribable.
